ABU DHABI, 12th May, 2022 (WAM) — Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, SEHA, will host the first Middle East Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (MESPEN) Congress, which will be held in Abu Dhabi from May 13-15.
Organised by INDEX Conferences & Exhibition at the Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers Hotel, the conference aims to highlight the key value of parenteral and enteral nutrition (PEN) in patient care, and to highlight the importance of clinical nutrition practice among professional healthcare providers such as physicians importance of pharmacists, clinical nutritionists and nurses.
Parenteral nutrition, also known as TPN, is the most complex solution in the pharmacy, delivering fluid nutrition, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes, to a patient’s veins, without using the digestive system. It is given to patients who cannot use the gastrointestinal system effectively.TPN must be ordered, handled, infused, and monitored by a qualified clinician in a multidisciplinary approach.
Enteral nutrition, also known as tube feeding, refers to the administration of special liquid formulations designed specifically to treat and manage a patient’s medical and nutritional condition.Depending on the clinical condition of the patient, the liquid solution enters the enteral system of the gastrointestinal tract directly through a tube or into the jejunum through a nasogastric, nasojejunal, gastrostomy, or jejunostomy.
With the participation of more than 20 major global and regional companies, MESPEN will be attended by more than 50 well-known keynote speakers who will cover various topics through 60 sessions, 25 abstracts, and hold various workshops to address inpatient, outpatient and PEN issues in home care settings, all of which will promote clinical nutrition in healthcare organizations and community services.
